An Introduction to Our Institutional Research Products
Our research concentrates on sectors of the securities markets and the economy. An underlying thesis of our analysis is that the stock market is not homogeneous. Rather, it is composed of major sectors whose movements reflect the divergent trends present in the economy, society, government and investor psychology. We analyze macroeconomics, technical, political and demographic trends as they relate to the securities markets and track about 50 industry averages on a technical basis to monitor diversity in the market.
50 years ago, Kenneth Safian, president of Safian Investment Research, co-introduced what we believe was the second major attempt to sectionalize the stock market (the first having been accomplished by Charles Dow in the late 1800’s). This approach, the dual market principle, has been particularly useful in identifying major divergencies that have occurred in the market.

This flagship report recommends stock market sectors to pursue and avoid, and suggests the appropriate degree of equity exposure for large institutional portfolios.
